The APA has written this report because we are concerned about the unexplained reduction in access to the NDIS for people with a psychosocial disability. We know that:

  • NDIS access has dramatically reduced for people with psychosocial disability, and participation is well below predicted rates and numbers.
  • People with a psychosocial disability who need the NDIS, have a right to access the NDIS. That right, and their access, is being wrongly denied.
  • The lack of psychosocial expertise within the NDIA is creating unintended barriers.

The report includes an analysis of access and funding for people with people with psychosocial disability, case studies highlighting the human costs of reduced access for those with the most complex needs and clear recommendations for an equitable and sustainable NDIS.

The report findings are already supported by many other organisations, showing a united voice against this systemic discrimination. We welcome any individual or organisation continuing to amplify the voices in this report.
